Blenderart Special Project: Material Node set-up ‘Cookbook’
Blender Material Node Cookbook
After having received very positive feedback on this project idea, I have decided that there is no time like the present to get it started. After giving it some thought, I am considering some of the following options:
-
pdf chapters separated in logical categories for a smaller download size
-
each category could be updated quickly and or a new pdf with additional nodes could be created
-
-
a flash card based system (or more appropriately recipes cards) with the node set-up image on one side of the card and the description/how to on the reverse side
-
recipe cards could be added as need with 1st sets bundled according to category and future releases in one download that could be added to your previous sets.
-
New Poll: Material Node Cookbook
As blender users become more familiar with the Material Node system, a lot of very cool Material Node setups are being created. Unfortunately, the greater majority of these setups are spread all over the net on various forums, threads and websites. BAM thinks it would be beneficial to the community to gather up as many of these wonderful setups (with the artists’ permission of course) as we can find, add a short ‘how to/description’ of how and why it works and bundle it all in a pdf format ‘Cookbook’.
It would allow users to quickly get the look they need without re-inventing the wheel, so to speak. It would also provide a valuable learning tool for users that are still struggling with the whole Node system.
So weigh in and give us your opinion on this project.
Our Readers have Spoken
Our recent poll on “What topics would you like to see Blenderart cover” is now closed. With 500 votes having been cast, we have good sampling of our readers’ interests and what you would like to see covered in future issues.
As the most voted for topic, Issue #13 will be “Fantasy” with the following issue to be on either Game Engine or Cartoon Modeling and perhaps both
We will eventually cover all the topics in the poll, so not to worry if your favorite doesn’t show up for a while.
The BAM staff thanks you for your participation.
Call for BAM Proofers now closed
We have now closed application for BAM proofers. We have accepted 12 new proofers to help us maintain the quality of Blenderart magazine. We will introduce them in the November issue of Blenderart Magazine.

Call for Blenderart Magazine Proofers
It’s that time again to call for proofers for Blenderart Magazine. In addition to a few of our current proofers having other time constraints and no longer being able to help us, the magazine has also grown. We publish a larger number of in depth articles that require more proofing time. More proofers would ease the work load on our proofers.
We need 6 dedicated proofers or 12 semi dedicated proofers.
Loss of One of Our Mirrors
For the last two years, Apollux has graciously hosted/mirrored issues of Blenderart Magazine.
But I got some sad news to bring you: Apollux-Designs will be no more. Apollux wrote to tell me:
When I started the page it was with the idea of having a place to educate people about the visual arts (including 3DCGI) and also having a place to display my own works. But somehow it never came to happen. I got caught up in work or university or whatever and in the end the page never realized it’s potential.
Issue 12: Texturing Special Issue Released
We have packed this issue full of Texturing tutorials, techniques and tips to make the most of your model/scene. Learn how to create amazing textures and utilize blender’s texturing tools to bring your work to the next level.
