Issue 11: Mechanical Issue Released & Blenderart.org gets a makeover!
Welcome to Issue #11, “Mechanical Special”.
NOTE: As of now, the only mirror not up is S3D! Everything else works…
We have 60 pages full of Mechanical Modeling for you check out and enjoy. With several tutorials as well as “Making Of’ articles this is sure to get you fired up and modeling a score of mechanical models in no time at all.
Also be sure to check out our gallery of wonderful images submitted by very talented members of our community.
As you read this posting, you may notice that the site has gotten a full overhaul.
We’ve taken the liberty to switch to a more manageable content manager and are still getting our feet wet. We’ve added a few more features than our previous site and hope to get more info out there than just through our magazine. As you may notice, we also have a “tutorial” link that will feature tutorials from all of our previous issue to make it a lot easier to find and read. That section is still a work-in-progress, but we will surely keep working on it to provide you the best content.
NOTE: We are moving our subscription handler to something more efficient for us, and will be repeating this notice in our last newsletter from the old handler, that if you wish to continue receiving newsletters or up-to-date news about BlenderArt Magazine, please re-subscribe on the subscription form on the right side of the website, or Subscribe Here. You may also wish to update your RSS feeds as well as we are no longer using blogger.

Thank you for all the hard work. As always, excellent issue!
One problem: As of now (08/04/2007), *all* the zipped .blend files from every mirror are corrupt — at least for me. Downloading and unzipping the magazine was no problem, though.

P. Kim-Aun, What are u using to unzip? and what are u using to view the pdf’s with?
Comment by Nam — August 4, 2007 @ 11:08 pm
I use the freely available ALZip 6.7 (www.altools.net). Just found out that there is now a 7.0 beta 1 version. Anyway, I never had problems in the past when dealing with zip files.
I use Acrobat Reader 8.0 to read PDF files, which in this case is not a relevant issue because I still had to unzip the PDF — and *that* worked fine as expected.
Interestingly, I was able to unzip all the other past “Blenderart” issues without problems.
Thanks for your quick response.

I will look into this. Sorry for the trouble. Are you able to read the magazine yet or no? I can send you the PDF.

Thanks, all the magazine work *perfectly*! I can unzip them without any problems.
It’s *only* the blender files (*.blend) of issue #11 where ALZip reports “Corrupted archive file” errors.

Am I really the only one who has reported problems with the blender files???
Comment by P. Kim-Aun — August 11, 2007 @ 12:36 am
yes, i believe so.

Alright, I have tested extensively with other zip programs (IZArc, ZipGenius, WinRAR, etc.) and it seems like ONLY ALZip reports errors. So there seems to be a bug in that specific program.
Anyway, thank you for your attention. All is good now :).
